3 Favorite Fish Fry Restaurants in Memphis, TN
Information on three of the best places to purchase tasty fish in the Memphis, TN area.
A J; Catfish Station 5950 Knight Arnold Road Exd Memphis, TN 38115 (901) 795-0300
This has got to be one of my favorite fried fish diners in Memphis. Their fish is seasoned just the way I like it, with that tasty cornmeal coating, and while it's a little higher in price (the "small" catfish plate which comes with 3 pieces of catfish, steak cut french fries, hush puppies, and cole slaw is $9.99), I'd say it's definitely worth it because it's a lot of food and usually end up taking half on it home with me. The atmosphere is lacking a little - it seems like it must have been a bar before being converted into a sit-down restaurant. Plus, there are a lot of people constantly coming and going because they have a phone order system going on where people can order ahead and come in to pick it up. But that's a good thing about them - all the fish is fried fresh to order and you can really tell.
Flying Fish 105 S 2nd St Memphis, TN 38103 (901) 522-8228
This is probably the most popular fish fry restaurant among the people I know in Memphis. The restaurant is located in the downtown area, so it's just perfect for when you're getting those tummy rumblings after walking the streets of downtown, or perhaps after that horse drawn carriage ride Memphis is so well-known for downtown. And no one could blame you for wanting to sit down with a mug of beer that they have on tap or perhaps sharing a glass of wine with your sweetheart to go along with their tasty menu selections. In fact, I could safely say that their menu is one of the largest menus I have ever seen at a fish-fry type restaurant. They have everything from their perfectly seasoned fried fish combo baskets (the shrimp and fish combos are great) to a healthier selection of grilled fish. Again, their prices are a little higher than you may have expected (as an example, $11.99 for 4 shrimp and 2 catish pieces, which includes fries and hush puppies). Keep in mind you will have to pay a little extra ($1.99) if you want cole slaw - which most people do when it comes to eating fried fish. But I say it's all worth it because of the location, the selection, the atmosphere, and the way your taste buds and tummy are going to thank you!
Soul Fish Cafe 862 South Cooper Memphis, TN 38104 (901) 725-0722
This location (they also have one in Germantown) is definitely a favorite of Memphians. They have a great selection of po'boys - everyone's favorite, of course, being the catfish po'boy. It's served on a really tasty New Orleans style roll and comes with their homemade remoulade. If you're looking for a more upscale place to eat fried fish in Memphis, I would say this is your better bet. Their prices are hard to beat, especially considering how much food they give you. Make sure to try some caramel pecan pie to finish off your fish dinner!
