Sometimes, when the economy is bad, or your income has fluctuated, you end up having to give up certain things in your life, such as a trip to shop for clothing, or premium channels on your television. But even if everything is going well in your life, it can actually be fun to substitute some more expensive things, for less costly versions. Whether you're struggling financially, or not at all, you're going to love hot dog kabobs. Simply replace the huge chunks of beef that you normally feature on your shish kabobs, with hot dog chunks, to serve guests at a party, on a budget.
Sure, if you promised your guests beef or steak kabobs, and they show up to find hot dogs, you might not get the best reception. But for a kid's party, a cookout with other foods, or a quick family meal, you can't beat hot dog kabobs. They're cheap, quick to cook, and will satisfy everyone from the youngest child at a birthday party, to the adults at your barbecue. That's because there are many delicious combinations that you can create so that each person has a scrumptious hot dog kabob.
Use any choice of hot dogs, from foot-longs, to all-beef, to chicken wieners. For each kabob, slice one hot dog into several chunks. Push a wooden skewer through the puckered area of a chunk, which was cut from the end of the hot dog. Save the other hot dog end as the final piece to be added to the kabob. With the first hot dog piece on the stick, begin adding other foods to the skewer, alternating those foods with chunks of the hot dog.
There are many variations of the kabobs that you can make. You can skewer just foods that can be grilled, or foods that don't have to be cooked, and you can serve warm or cold hot dogs. Grilled hot dog kabobs can feature tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, and even chunks of bread. Cold hot dogs can be skewered with the foods mentioned for grilling, and/or cheese and pickles. When all the foods are in place on the stick, finish by skewering the last end-piece from the hot dog. Hot or cold, the hot dog kabobs are even more delicious when served with dips, like mustard, ketchup, or barbecue sauce.
