Farmland Southwest Peppercorn Dry Rub Seasoned Pork Tenderloin
This Farmland pork tenderloin weighs 1.2 pounds, and has a dry rub seasoning in the Southwest Peppercorn flavor. Cooks up wonderfully on the grill.
The Farmland Pork Tenderloin was packaged in sealed 19.2 ounce plastic, and they had two flavors available, teriyaki and southwest peppercorn. Knowing that my husband loves peppercorns, I chose the latter.
The Farmland Pork Tenderloin was covered with a paprika colored dry rub seasoning, and the back of the package gave directions for two different cooking methods. The tenderloin could be baked in a 425 degree oven for 25-30 minutes, or it could be cooked on a grill for 20-30 minutes. Since it was hot here today I didn't want to heat up the oven and we cooked this on our grill.
Instructions on the back of the package stated to heat a gas or charcoal grill to "medium", but neither of us knew what temperature this meant. Luckily our grill has a built in thermometer, and we heated it up to 300 degrees, put the Farmland Southwest Peppercorn Dry Rub Seasoned Pork Tenderloin on the grll, and let it cook for 30 minutes. We did need to turn the tenderloin occasionally to prevent it from burning. The instructions did say to cook the meat until the internal temperature reached 155 degrees (in the thickest part of the meat), and we tested it with a meat thermometer before we took it off the grill to be sure it was done, and it was perfect!
The rub ingredients included spices, paprika, salt, dehydrated onion and garlic, dehydrated green and red bell pepper, dextrose, natural flavor (maltodextrin, extractives of red pepper).
This 19.2 ounce pork tenderloin is supposed to serve five people, but this would not serve five people that I know! The tenderloin is quite skinny, maybe 3" in diameter, and between my husband and myself we ate 2/3 of it. Based on 1/5 of the tenderloin, it contains 130 calories, 3 grams of fat, 1 gram of saturated fat, zero grams trans fats, 60 mg cholesterol, 260 mg sodium, 1 gram of carbohydrates, 0 grams fiber, 1 gram sugars, and 23 grams of protein.
This pork tenderloin came out very moist and juicy, although not quite as tender as a pork roast that has been cooking in the oven for a longer length of time. The rub on the outside of the pork was quite spicy hot, and the next time I purchase a Farmland Pork Tenderloin I will opt for the teriyaki flavor. My husband loved it, and I liked it even though I don't particularly care for spicy foods. I like the nutritional value of this meal, it is low in calories and fat, low in sodium and carbohydrates, it has very little sugar, and it provides a lot of protein. It was a nice alternative to grilling steak or pork chops, and I will be purchasing it again.
