Product Review of Van Camp's Pork and Beans
Van Camp's Pork and Beans make a good side dish.
It seems to take you back to the cowboy days when beans were a constant food staple enjoyed by families. Of particular interest are the healthy benefits that they boast of. It is high in fiber, 98% fat free and cholesterol free. The net weight of 15 ounces (425 grams) is clearly identified in the lower right portion of the can.
As you turn the can to the back side you are given some of the history of how they came into being. They have been serving families since 1861. These tidbits make for interesting and enjoyable reading. There is also a solicitation for consumers to try their Baked Beans and Beanee Weenee products. Heating instructions are stated in easy to understand terms for stove top and microwave use. At the bottom are instructions to refrigerate all unused portions in a storage container. Additionally there is a UPC code.
On one side of the can is a recycle label and logo encouraging you to dispose of properly. On the side opposite of that are the nutrition facts. Towards the bottom is the food distributor's name of Con Agra as well as their hours of operation. A phone number is also given to direct any questions, comments or concerns you may have. The background color for the can is a brownish-red tint.
On the top lid of the can you will notice a "Best By" date to eat the contents along with a set of numbers. The bottom is blank.
I found the can easy to open. Inside is an abundance of beans comfortably bathed in a generous portion of tomato juice. I simply heat them in a sauce pan for a few minutes on the stove, stirring briefly. The taste is pleasant. I usually have them as a side dish to a meal. Even after a few days of being refrigerated they maintain their taste quality. On average they cost about 65 cents a can.
If you're hankering for those days gone by when life was a lot simpler, open up a can of Van Camp's Pork and Beans and travel back in time.
