McCormick Grill Mates Montreal Chicken vs. Kroger Chicken Grill Time Seasoning
Both of these seasonings are sugar free, but the Kroger brand tastes just as good as the more expensive McCormick!
I ended up purchasing two products to season chicken. The first is McCormick Grill Mates Montreal Chicken seasoning, which comes in a 2.75 ounce spice bottle. The lid flips up to reveal five large holes, so you can easily shake the seasoning onto your chicken. The ingredients in the McCormick Grill Mates Montreal Chicken seasoning are: Garlic, salt, onion, spices (including black pepper, parsley, and red pepper), orange peel, paprika, green bell pepper, and sulfiting agents.
The instructions say to shake one tablespoon of seasoning per pound of chicken onto meat before grilling or broiling. There is also a marinade recipe, using the McCormick Grill Mates Montreal Chicken seasoning and olive oil, white wine vinegar, and Italian seasoning. The McCormick seasoning retailed for $2.99.
The second product I purchased was the Kroger Chicken Grill Time Seasoning, which also came in a 2.75 ounce spice bottle. It also has the flip top cap with the five large holes so you can easily shake the seasoning onto your chicken. Its ingredients were similar, as it included: Garlic, salt, spices (black pepper, sage, thyme, rosemary, red pepper), parsley, orange peel, paprika, and green bell peppers. The directions on the bottle of Kroger Chicken Grill Time Seasoning says to use one tablespoon of seasoning per pound of chicken or other meat before grilling or broiling. The Kroger brand sold for $2.49. As you can see these products sound a lot alike.
When I compare the two seasonings I find they look very similar, however after using them I really like the less expensive Kroger Chicken Grill Time Seasoning better than the McCormick Grill Mates Montreal Chicken seasoning. I love the flavor that sage, thyme and rosemary add to any kind of poultry, and all of these spices were missing in the McCormick brand. We even add the Kroger seasoning to beef and it really does a nice job of making the meat taste succulent, and it makes our home smell wonderful while the beef or chicken is cooking.
To conclude, the name brand products are not always the best tasting products! From now on I am going to stick with the Kroger brand and save my hard earned money.
