Five Spicy Barbecue Sauces You Need to Try
Do you like your barbecue sauce on the spicy side? Here are five brands of spicy BBQ sauces that range from the hottest I've ever tried (and I'm a hot food lover for more than four decades now) to mildly spicy but profoundly flavorful.
Looking for a brand new spicy barbecue sauce to knock your socks off? Whether grilling hamburgers, broiling steaks or slow-roasting pork ribs, you need that extra bit of flavor that arrives with a well-chosen spicy barbecue sauce. Have you stood in front of the barbecue sauce aisle in your local supermarket lately? You could easily waste a good half hour just reading the full names of each separate brand. Who has that kind of time to waste, especially when so many of those brands are immediately deserving of being overlooked? (Anything with Jack Daniels, Budweiser, Paula Deen or Kraft, among others, belonging to this group you can instantly eschew). You want good barbecue sauce? Try one of these that I have personally tested and tried under a variety of conditions. Trust me, you won't be disappointed by any and may just come to love one or two.
Loose Lip Larry's Spicy BBQ Sauce
My number pick for everybody is Loose Lip Larry's Spicy BBQ Sauce . I say for everybody because while it has a little kick to it, it can be enjoyed equally well by those who prefer a sweeter barbecue sauce and those who like it spicy. While the spicy version of Loose Lip Larry's has spicy in the title, obviously, I have another recommendation for those who really like things hot. What makes Loose Lip Larry's Spicy BBQ Sauce my number one pick for all is that it provides flavor, a nice amount of spiciness without scaring away weenies, is just sweet enough to give it more flavor without being on one of those awful barbecue sauces that overindulges in the sugar and isn't one of those sauces that is too thick. In fact, I often use Loose Lip Larry's Spicy BBQ Sauce as a dipping condiment for food that I also cooked in the sauce. The only downside to falling in love with Loose Lip Larry's Spicy BBQ Sauce is that it is difficult to track down. After the local Publix here stopped carrying, I went to the manager and asked them to bring it back. Which, eventually, they did. The good news is that you can order it from Amazon.
Bronko's Who's Your Daddy
I like it hot. Some of you like it hot. Others can't stand it hot. Loose Lip Larry is good for all of you. Bronko's Who's Your Daddy barbecue sauce is not. Let me repeat that: if you do not like your hot sauce spicy in taste as well as name, then do not try Bronko's Who's Your Daddy. This is the hottest barbecue sauce I have ever tried. A little of Bronko's daddy goes a long way. Let me give you some context: I used to cover an entire slice of pizza at the pizza by the slice joint inside the ball with red peppers. Literally. People would stop eating at nearby tables just to watch what would happen when I took a bite. I'm saying I love spicy food. And I'm also saying that Bronko's Who's Your Daddy is the hottest barbecue sauce I have ever tried. I must also admit that it sometimes upsets my stomach, so beware. But if you cannot eat food grilled, broiled or roasted without a spicy sauce, then you owe it to yourself to try Bronko's Who's Your Daddy. I should also mention that Bronko's makes a chocoate barbecue sauce. Never tried it, but I am curious.
Garland Jack's Secret Six Squealin' Hot Sauce
Not really hot enough to make you squeal, but an excellent barbecue sauce choice for those who want a little more kick than Loose Lip Larry's gives but not quite the food to the groin that those people might get from Bronko's Who's Your Daddy. Let me straight about this: Bronko's is for the professional spicy food lover. Garland Jack's Secret Six Squealin' Hot Sauce is for those who aren't sure if they can handle Bronko's yet, but think they might like to get there. I can't even say that the Secret Six offers more flavor and less spice than Bronko's. Both deliver deep flavor but Garland Jack's just backs off the spice quotient a little.
Habanero BBQ Sauce from Hell
Yeah, I'm surprised, too. Bronko's Who's Your Daddy is actually hotter than Habanero BBQ Sauce from Hell . At least, to me. Bronko's also has more flavor to go with heat. I recommend Habanero BBQ Sauce From Hell for precisely that reason. If you love the spicy quality of barbecue, grilled, roasted, baked or broiled meat, but you want to mix it with a specific flavor of your own desire, then here's what you do. First you marinate the food in just a little bit of Habanero BBQ Sauce from Hell. Don't overdo it. Not because you can't handle the heat--you should be able to do that if you are the type of person to by a habanero-based BBQ sauce--but because you don't want the heat to overpower things. Give the marinade at least a few hours to soak into the meat then start cooking. One the meat is halfway to done, slather on the flavoring of your choice. Anything from hickory to teriyaki to Dr. Pepper to sweet Vidalia to smoky to honey mustard to Polynesian to, well, you get the idea. Since Habanero BBQ Sauce from Hell is all about the heat without bothering much with flavor, it's a perfect barbecue sauce to combine with the flavoring of your choice to create a mixture of spicy and something else.
