Ohno avoids reckless finish by South Koreans to finish second for the Silver Medal and becomes America's most decorated skater.

Apolo Anton Ohno faced off against his biggest rival South Korean Lee Jung-Su and young up and coming 19 year old United States skater JR Selski. The 1500 Meter Final started with seven skaters, one more than the normal six, because Olivier Jean was advanced from the semi final.
Ohno led the first half of the race uncharacteristically and then the South Koreans jumped into the top three spots and were on their way to a sweep of the event. With two laps to go Ohno stumbled as he attempted to regain the lead and that was when the South Koreans gained the one-two three positioning.
Ohno and Selski were skating fourth and fifth when amazingly the two South Koreans knocked themselves out of a second and third place finish on the final turn. As the two South Korean skaters slid helplessly into the wall Ohno and Selski glided to their sliver and bronze medals. The Silver Medal made Ohno the most decorated United States skater in history.

Olivier Jean from Canada went down in his semi final race and so did Canada's hope of a medal as Lee Jung-Su advanced fairly easily in his 1500 Meter race. Apolo Anton Ohno had to sweat out a potential disqualification in his semi final race in which he placed second. Ohno made a bold move to the inside with two laps to go and nearly took out the leader of the race. Ohno gave back the position and was allowed by the Olympic officials to transfer to the 1500 meter Men's Final.
JR Selski the 17 year old short track phenom hadn't raced since his nasty crash in September at the Olympic Trials. Selski suffered a deep gash on his leg when his skate cut him as he went into the wall. Selski transferred to the Semi Finals with a second place finish in his heat. In the semi final Selski moved into first place early. Selski lost the lead then jumped back out front with six laps to go and was pressured heavily with three laps to go until he crossed the finish line.
