Consequently, I am always on the search for an alternative barbecue sauce. However, what is typically found in the stores does not really fit the bill. I usually end up adding stuff to a pre-made sauce just to get the taste I want. Then I forget what I have added and can't duplicate it again whenever I want to.
The good news is that I finally found a barbecue sauce that I do like. Mind you, I don't love it like my old sauce, but it is better than anything else I have found so far. It is called Jack Daniel's Original No. 7 Recipe Barbecue Sauce. The name is a mouthful, but then so is the sauce.
What I like about this sauce is that it is definitely not made for wimps. It has some punch, lots of rich flavor and plenty of spice; just the way I like it. However, it also has just a hint of sweetness to offset the spice. The overall effect is truly amazing.
I use Jack Daniel's Original No. 7 Recipe Barbecue Sauce two ways. I use it as a marinade for London broil or New York strip steak. It is equally good as a straight sauce on pork or any type beef. Add a bit of honey and Worcestershire sauce and create the perfect basting sauce over salmon, shrimp or turkey. Pop in some lemon to baste tilapia, scallops or chicken. Anyway you use it, this sauce is top notch.
Ingredients included in this sauce include, but are not necessarily limited to the following. It includes distilled white vinegar, garlic powder, hickory smoke flavoring (natural), high fructose corn syrup, Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey flavor, miscellaneous spices, modified corn starch, molasses, mustard flour, onion powder, salt, tomato paste and water. It also includes caramel color, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate and xanthan gum.
Not let's talk about nutrition. A serving size of Jack Daniel's Original No. 7 Recipe Barbecue Sauce is 2 Tbsp. That means there are roughly 25 servings in a 28-ounce bottle. Each serving represents 50 calories. Of that; however, none are fat related.
On the negative side, Jack Daniel's Original No. 7 Recipe Barbecue Sauce contains 12 grams of carbohydrates, 8 grams of sugar and 250 milligrams of sodium. Unfortunately, there is no nutritional value of measurable proportions in this product.
Jack Daniel's Original No. 7 Recipe Barbecue Sauce is sold in 28 oz and 40 oz sizes. It can be found in most major grocery stores as well as some discount department stores that have a large food section.

Taste: 5 stars. If anything Jack Daniel's Original No. 7 Recipe Barbecue Sauce could be called too tasty. It is full of ripe, rich tomato sauce and enough spices to keep you guessing for a year. This sauce is full bodied, like a fine wine. It is probably too rich for children and could be heavier than a lot of adults like as well.
Ease of use: 5 stars. This sauce is versatile. It works well as a marinade for almost any cut of meat. However, it needs to be diluted with lemon or Worcestershire to make it delicate enough for most seafood options. The sauce is also perfect for basting. It is thick and creamy with enough body to hold on to the meat cut chosen for barbecue. It is also a good dipping sauce for things like fried chicken strips or shrimp.
Appearance: 5 stars: Jack Daniel's Original No. 7 Recipe Barbecue Sauce is darker than most other barbecue sauces, which is probably a testament to its richness. It works beautifully with most meat, but is definitely designed for use on beef.
Nutrition: 0 stars. Jack Daniel's Original No. 7 Recipe Barbecue Sauce has no nutritional value. In addition to that, its high carb, sugar and sodium intake may make this product one that many people need or choose to avoid.

Ease of storage: 3 stars. The bottle measures 8 ½" by 3 ¼" by 2". It is a bit big for old fashioned kitchen cabinets that were not made for tall items. It also does not fit very well inside a refrigerator door. The best storage options for this bottle is a kitchen pantry.
Availability: 4 stars. Jack Daniel's products are sold in most major grocery stores but may not be available in smaller, mom and pop operations. It is also limited to very large discount department stores that have an extensive food section like Wal-Mart.
Price: 5 stars. The cost is comparable to other similar barbecue sauces. It retails for under $4 for the 28 oz size and around $6 for the 40 oz size.
