Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain Cooker: The Best Smoker for Under $400
With this smoker you can do a whole turkey and have room to do a ham at the same time. Weber smokey mountain cooker is more than just a smoker though.
If your looking for a place to hook up the propane on the Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain Cooker you will be sadly disappointed, there isn't any, this Weber grill uses charcoal. Some people may look at that as a problem, but if you are that type of person then the Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain Cooker probably wasn't designed for you anyway. The entire cooker is made from porcelain with a controllable air intake on the bottom which feeds your heat source. The smoke travels up through the meat chambers, which there are two of them with two super heavy nickel plated grates . They even thought to include a water pan so that the Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain Cooker will not dry out your meats like some other smokers can.
The entire smoker/ grill put together is 19inches around and 41 inches high, so it is a fairly good size however I found that racks of ribs could sometimes be hard to place and I had to accept cutting them in half for better placement. That aside the end product was very good and there are enough features to control the heat and humidity. A word of warning when it comes to setting up the Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain Cooker on your deck, do as the instructions state if you have a wood deck, go to a hardware store and pick up a couple of cement blocks to protect your deck from the heat. They did include a heat shield at the bottom of the Smokey Mountain Cooker but the legs are pretty short and if you're going to be smoking meat for long periods of time the extra protection is well advised.
If you are looking to save money then the Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain Cooker is not for you, it is about $350 which is a pretty high price in terms of smokers, however this is not just a smoker as you can easily turn it into a traditional Weber charcoal grille with the included rack and charcoal ring, but I cannot help to think that if you are serious about bbq enough to purchase the Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain Cooker then you are probably going to smoke a lot more than you grill, however either way if you can afford it then this Weber does the job.
