Things to Think About Before You Shop for a New Grill
Why infrared grills are better than charcoal grills
A grill can be a huge investment now a days. You can spend anywhere from $99 to $799 in Lowes and even get special made ones for more than that. Some people wonder why spend more than $100? The following paragraphs will tell you a little bit about why spending extra money on a grill can mean saving money in the future.
$99-$199 Grills
These grills are great if you love to cook burgers and hot dogs every now and then. They will do the job just fine........for a few years. Most cheap grills like this will last 3 years and then will completely rust out. The grates are porcelain and will flake off throughout time. Also, the outer surface of the grill will not be stainless steel which means it may rust out in time also. Really it all depends on how much you grill. The more you grill, the faster they will deteriorate.
$199-$399 Grills
Ah yes once you have decided that you would like to get a little extra quality out of your grill and quite a few more years, you step up a price notch. When you go into this price category, you can be guaranteed that your options open up like never before. Now is when you can buy a grill that is totally stainless steel and will last you years of enjoyment (not to mention all the yummy food). These grills will cook steaks much better as they have a better cooking surface. You can buy a grill that has stainless steel or porcelain-cast iron grates. Stainless steel are better, will last longer, and clean up easier.
What is nice is that either type of grate you are able to put in a dishwasher to clean it. Also, you are able to decide what extras you would like with the grill. Is a side burner a must? Would you like a griddle with it? Does it have a rotisserie? All of these questions are important to ask yourself.
$399-$799 Grills
Now we get to the real beauties of the grills. Some people wonder why they would ever want to pay this much money in their life for a grill. One answer, this is the only grill you will ever need in your life. These grills are made to last and to grill some of the best grilled foods you will ever taste. You ask, "why are these grills gonna make my food taste better?" My answer...you can get a grill that is infrared in this price range. Infrared technology has just come out in the past 2-3 years and is starting to become very popular. What they do is the infrared heats the meat on the grill and not the air around it. Most grills require you to shut the lid so that you are able to get the air around the meat hot enough. That way dries the meat out and takes the juices and the flavor away. With infrared grills heat up in 3 minutes so your ready to cook faster. Steaks you ask? Oh yes done in half the amount of time and seared to perfection. The juices stay locked inside of the steak because the outside gets seared. Of course being expensive means many options also. The higher priced ones come with halogen lights so that you are able to grill during the night time. Also, some come with storage trays, propane tank tray, infrared rotisserie, infrared side burner, ect.
Now you know a little bit about why more money will save you money over time. One more expensive grill can save you from having to spend $200 every couple of years, transportation costs, and the cost of your time. Of course, an expensive grill isn't for everyone, but at least you know why they are more expensive now. A few hints on making your grill last longer before I end.
#1 - Buy a cover - spend $20 on one for the cheaper grills it will help
#2 - Clean it after you use it
#3 - Use common sense and just take care of it
