Eating Texas BBQ Vs Kansas BBQ

A review of two very good BBQ restaurants, one in Kansas, one in Texas.

When I'm in Kansas, my favorite place to eat BBQ is 'Guy amp; Mae's BBQ Ribs', located in Williamsburg, Kansas. Don't blink when you drive through town or you might miss the town, not to mention Guy amp; Mae's. Guy amp; Mae's is one of the few businesses remaining in the small town of approximately 350-some people. A sign of how the economy is effecting small towns across America. On a positive note, people come from all over Kansas and even from other states to eat Guy amp; Mae's yummy BBQ ribs. In fact, Guy amp; Mae's is so popular that they've been nominated as one of the 8 Wonders of Kansas for cuisine. Guy amp; Mae's meat is tender and their BBQ sauce, which is light and tangy, is one of the best I've ever tasted. If you find yourself in Kansas, be sure to stop in and have a bite at Guy amp; Mae's.

When I'm in Texas, my favorite place to eat BBQ is the 'Railhead Smokehouse BBQ', located in Fort Worth, TX. The Railhead has been nominated and received numerous awards for their BBQ. From my viewpoint, Railhead BBQ ribs are the very best. Of course, I am somewhat biased. The Railhead's meat is perfectly cook, tender and has just the right amount of smoky flavor. Their sauce, slightly sweet and tangy, can't be beat. If you are in North Texas, be sure to try the BBQ at the Railhead.

Texas, as opposed to Kansas, is well known for 'all things western'. BBQ is definitely a western derived food, originally created on long cattle drives from the Texas wild lands to the rail head in Abilene, Kansas. Possibly why Kansas has developed some very good BBQ. As the railroads expanded after the civil war, the long trail drives were not necessary and cattle began being shipped east from Fort Worth, TX. Thereby, earning Fort Worth it's nickname of Cowtown and the Railhead Smokehouse it's name.

Although I would like to settle the debate of which state produces the best BBQ, I seriously doubt that the conflict will ever be resolved. Each state has their own recipes, their own supporters, and each offer excellent BBQ choices. As with all things, the decision of which is best is determined by what a person is most familiar with.

Now if you really want to get into a state-vs-state debate on who has the best food, just tell a Texan that some other state makes better chili. Only a Texan knows what it takes to make great chili, which by-the-way, was also created on long cattle drives!
