Guide and Recipes for Barbecuing
Before you fire up your gas grill for the first time this grilling season, be sure to rid it of germs and pesky insects that have made it their home. Also in this article are barbeque sauce recipes and a wine suggestion.
With that said, before you cook on your gas grill, turn it on high heat, close the cover and leave it on the high temperature for at least 10 minutes. This will ensure a germ-free grill, and any little pesky insects will disappear. Now turn off the grill. After it has cooled down, wipe off the grill grates with a cloth dipped in vinegar. Now you're ready to barbeque!
Here is my favorite barbeque sauce for chicken or pork...
A lot of ingredients, but simple to conjure up and tastes delicious!
Honey BBQ Sauce
Ingredients:
1 cup honey
1/4 cup molasses
1/4 cup ketchup
1/8 teaspoon paprika
1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
1 tablespoon meat tenderizer
1 tablespoon seasoned salt
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 tablespoons prepared mustard
1 teaspoon minced garlic (garlic lovers may want to add more)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup bottled steak sauce
Instructions:
Add all ingredients to a pan on stove top; With heat set to medium-high, stir until the sauce is well combined; let this come to just before the boiling point; Turn heat to simmer; Cover, stirring occasionally; Let simmer for 30 minutes. Keep covered in refrigerator until ready for use.
And some like it hot...
Jalapeno and Pear Barbeque Sauce
Ingredients:
1 (16 ounce) can pears (packed in light syrup)
1/4 cup onion, minced
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons brown sugar
3 tablespoons jalapenos (bottled), minced
2 1/2 teaspoons jalapeno juice from bottle
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
Instructions:
Mix all ingredients in a pan on stove top; Turn the heat to low-medium; Let cook, stirring occasionally until the onions are tender; reduce heat to a simmer; cover; Let cook for at least 30 minutes, until sauce thickens.
You can also get decent results from a bottled barbeque sauce by adding an ingredient or two. I have added to bottled sauce (traditional flavor), 1/2 cup cherry preserves. This was very good. To bottled honey barbeque sauce, you can add little lemon juice. Just think of ways to jazz up the sauce and go with it.
Serve the meat with a tossed salad or side dish. For several tested salad dressing and side dish recipes visit
If you want a nice wine that goes well with your meal, a good choice is Riesling. No matter the sauce you choose, this wine compliments both the spicy and the sweet barbeque flavors
